about

Something different for our last track of May!

I am very lucky to be on holiday right now, so I thought it might be nice to try something non-English... in comes 'De Colores.' De Colores is a traditional Spanish-language folk song very popular in Mexican folklore and beyond. Some sources date it back to the early 16th century! I'd like to think I'm alright at Spanish pronunciation, but do forgive...

It's a song about all the colours in Spring, and I think it encapsulates a lot of the childish fun of the Spring/Summer period with its clumsy bumblebees, strutting birds and general de-thawing of everything in preparation for a big sun-soak.

There's lots of verses, but I'm singing the usual two used in children's songs with the onomatopoeic 'quiri quiri quri' of el gallo (the rooster) and the 'pio pio pi' of pollitos (chicks) bringing a lot of fun to any performance. I certainly had fun this time, and it was a nice choice to round out this collection of little May-related songs. Thank you so much for listening if you have done, and as always if you want to give any money it'll be donated to Outright International's fund for LGBTQI+ people in Ukraine.
